Dora Party Invitation

I made these invitations for my daughter's 4th birthday party, which has a Dora theme.  They are shaped like Dora's backpack, and you open them up to see the party information.  I even put little strips of paper on the back to look like "straps." :)  I thought they turned out pretty cute!

Three Cake Weekend - DONE!!! :)

Whew!  The past few days have been super intense, filled with hours of baking, frosting, and decorating three elaborate cakes that were all due on the same day!  Not to mention that one of them was decorated with fresh flowers, which required me to individually cut and wrap each stem with floral tape.  I have always had pretty good time management skills, but weeks like this really put them to the test!  In addition to all the many hours that it took me to get these cakes done, I also have to find time to run errands, do chores, exercise, cook dinner, do laundry, wash dishes...oh yeah, and take care of three young children! :) Needless to say, time management is crucial to my success, both as a baker and as a mom!  Anyway, here are the cakes that I successfully produced this week:

Cake #1: Super hero cake for a little boy turning 7.  The bottom tier is chocolate, and the top is vanilla.  It's frosted with vanilla buttercream and has fondant decorations.

Cake #2: Birthday cake for my friend Kelly, who is a ladybug fanatic.  It's a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant decorations.

Cake #3: My first wedding cake!!!  It's three tiers: 14" chocolate cake with chocolate filling, 10" vanilla cake, and 6" vanilla cake.  The whole thing is frosted with vanilla buttercream and adorned with fresh flowers.  I am sooooo happy with how it turned out!!!

Cupcake Mania!!!

Seems like I've been baking a lot of cupcakes lately.  People like them because they're easy to serve, easy to eat, and of course, they taste delicious!! :)  I enjoy decorating them because I can make each cupcake different and unique.  I especially enjoy making themed cupcakes.  Here are two of my latest batches.

Flower cupcakes for Mother's Day and a spring birthday...vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and fondant decorations.

And here are some super fun ones...birthday cupcakes for a friend moving to Egypt this summer!  They are chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and fondant decorations.  I think the mummies are my favorite! :)

Tinkerbell Cake

This is the cake I made for my daughter Rebecca's 6th birthday party today.  It was a Tinkerbell themed party, so of course she had to have a Tinkerbell cake!  It's three layers of "darn good chocolate cake" (chocolate with chocolate chips), with vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant decorations.  I was so excited to use my "disco dust" for the first time - it's an edible glitter that I purchased at the cake show I went to a few weeks ago.  I think it added a fun, whimsical touch to the cake!  It's hard to see in the photo, but in real life it really sparkled.  It coordinated nicely with the sparkly dress and wings on the Tinkerbell doll.  And most importantly, the birthday girl loved it! :)

Pinkalicious Cupcakes

My middle daughter turned 6 today, and on Friday she got to bring cupcakes in to school to share with her kindergarten class as a birthday treat.  She really wanted to make Pinkalicious cupcakes, based on the Pinkalicious book by Victoria Kann.  So I used pink foil cupcake liners and filled them with strawberry cake, then frosted them with pink vanilla buttercream and put a cherry on top, just like the infamous cupcakes in the book!  Her teacher read the story to the class, then all the kids gobbled up their cupcakes.  (But thankfully no one turned pink!!!)

Elegant Bridal Shower Cake

I recently made this cake for a bridal shower.  It's three layers of chocolate cake with raspberry filling, frosted with vanilla buttercream.  The frosting is pale yellow to match the color scheme of the shower.  I love the elegant look of the fresh raspberries on top!
