Lego Cake

Another fun Lego cake!  This one is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, covered in fondant.

Chocolate Ruffle Cake

I have seen this ruffle cake design on a number of different cake websites, and I've been dying to try it!  It looks so pretty and feminine, and the ruffly flowers on top make it look even more girly.  I've seen it with pink frosting and white flowers, which would be perfect for a baby shower or a girl's birthday party.  And white on white would make a beautiful bridal cake.  In this case, the client requested chocolate frosting, so that's what I used.  But the ruffles are lovely in brown, too!

Here's a closeup of the flowers.  I made them out of fondant and allowed them to dry for a few days.  Then I brushed them with pearlized luster dust to make them sparkle.  Love, love, LOVE!!!

This Weekend's Cakes

These cupcakes were for an event held at the local Methodist church.  They were vanilla and chocolate cupcakes in varying sizes, frosted with vanilla or chocolate buttercream.  I made the flowers out of fondant, and painted them with luster dust to give them a little sheen.  They were displayed on the awesome cupcake stand that my dad made for me.  I was delighted with how well the colors of the cupcakes matched the tablecloth and the overall decor of the room.

This batch of cupcakes were for my friend's dad's birthday.  The cake is dairy-free, egg-free chocolate, with chocolate buttercream and fondant leaves and acorns.

And finally, a baby shower cake for one of my repeat customers.  I made her bridal shower cake, her wedding cake, and now I had the pleasure of creating a cake to celebrate her first baby!  How cool is that???  The nursery is pale sage green and white with a monkey theme, so I used that as my inspiration for the cake.  It's vanilla cake with lime curd filling, frosted with vanilla buttercream and decorated with buttons made from candy melts.  Oh yeah, and a cute little fondant monkey on top!!!

Lots o' Cakes!

Busy weekend - 2 cakes and 1 set of cupcakes all due on Saturday!  Here are my latest creations:

75th Birthday Cake: Red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant decorations.  The 75 is made out of gumpaste and has edible red glitter on the numbers.  I love the color combination of red, green, white, and yellow.  And ladybugs are always adorable!!!

Teddy Bear Cupcakes: These cupcakes were for a 6-year-old boy celebrating his birthday at Build-a-Bear Workshop.  Half of the cupcakes were yellow cake, and the other half were red velvet.  They all have vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant teddy bears on top.  I used blue and yellow frosting, since those are the colors in the Build-a-Bear logo.

40th Birthday Cake:  Snickerdoodle cake (tastes like the cinnamon-flavored cookie called a snickerdoodle) with whipped cream filling and vanilla buttercream.  I sprinkled some edible glitter on top to add some extra pizzazz!

Piggy Bank Cake

I made this cute little piggy bank cake for a cake walk at my daughter's school fun fair.   He's yellow cake inside, covered with pink fondant.  The coins are all made out of fondant, too.  Isn't he cute?  I think he's downright adorable - from his smiley little snout to his curly pink tail!
