Gingerbread House Cake
I love, love, LOVE working on cakes like this one! The client ordered it as a dessert centerpiece for an annual mother-daughter gingerbread house decorating party. But here's the best part - these girls and their moms have been doing this party every year since they were in grade school, and now all the girls are high school seniors! So this was a special cake in honor of a very special night. It's two tiers of chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. I used fondant to create 23 different gingerbread girls - one for each of the girls in attendance at the party - and put graduation caps on their little heads since they'll be graduating this year. I also included all 23 of their names on the circles that go around the cake. Finally, as the piece de resistance, I created a fondant gingerbread house to put on top of the cake. I made the structure of the house out of cardboard, then decorated it with fondant. It was so beautiful that I could barely stand to give it away! Anyway, the moms and daughters were absolutely thrilled with the cake, which is the most rewarding part of my job. Happy Holidays, everyone!
