Topsy Turvy Circus Cake

This week involved another "first" for very first topsy turvy cake!  I spent some time scouring the Internet for tips on how to do it, and after reading countless tutorials, I was ready to take the leap!!  It was challenging and fun and stressful and overwhelming and, in the end, very rewarding to finally see the finished product!  But I certainly got a few hairs from this one. :)  It was a chocolate cake with chocolate filling, and then I frosted it with buttercream and decorated it with fondant stripes, dots, and pennants.  Oh yeah, and a ring of jelly beans around each layer.  I think the little circus animals turned out even more adorable than I'd hoped - I felt a little sad when I had to give them away!  But I'm glad that it made someone else very happy on his special day...Happy 2nd Birthday, William!!

Barbie Dress Cake

First of all, how is it that I have three daughters and I have never made a Barbie dress cake???

Second of all, I'm glad I had the opportunity to make my first one last week, for a sweet little girl turning 5.  The cake is chocolate with vanilla buttercream, a Barbie doll, and...the best part of all....edible GLITTER!!!!  Love!!!

Kirby Cake (Part 2)

Last year I made a Kirby cake for a little boy turning 7, and this year I got to make another one for his 8th birthday!  There were a few changes, though...this time Kirby is wielding an Ultra Sword and hanging out with a few Waddle Dees.  The sides of the cake feature a wraparound design that portrays scenes from the Kirby DS game.  The cake itself is vanilla with vanilla buttercream and fondant decorations.  Happy Birthday, Jason!!
