Shout Out to FCMOMs!!

You ladies are awesome.  Like, seriously awesome.  Thank you so much for passing my name along within your group and for spreading the word about my cake business.  I appreciate your support so much!  I've enjoyed working with several of you and I'm looking forward to meeting many more FCMOMs as time goes by!  Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely mother of twin girls who were celebrating their first birthday.  She requested that the cake coordinate with the "sweet tweets" party decor she'd chosen, which looks like this:
And here is the cake I created:
It's coconut cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant decorations.  I also made two jumbo "smash cupcakes" for the twins to devour on the big day:
I had several other cake orders to fill in addition to this one.  They included a yellow high heeled shoe cake and matching cupcakes for a bridesmaids tea:
...and a flock of flamingo cupcakes for my daughter Charlotte's 5th birthday party!  How adorable are these little guys???

And they were delicious, too!!!  Here's my sweet Charlotte after she said, "Mommy, I bit his head off!"

Hope everyone has a great week!  This weekend is the first one in a looooong time that I don't have any cakes scheduled, so I'm going camping with my family.  And it's supposed to be 98 degrees!!!  Yay.  I'm sure we'll have a great time anyway... after all, s'mores are delicious in ANY weather!!!

Cakes, Cakes, and More Cakes!!!

One of my close friends is the mother of twins, and she passed the word about my cake business on to her Mothers of Multiples group.  This has been one of the best connections that I have made, because all of these moms have to order 2 or 3 cakes at a time!  In my previous post, I included photos of a Cars cake and a Belle cake that I made for a set of triplets whose mom is a member of the group.  This week I got to make two cakes for a set of twins turning 4.  Behold, the Octonauts!!  They are both chocolate cake with chocolate filling, vanilla buttercream frosting, and fondant decorations.
Here are some cupcakes for a little girl having a princess-themed party - also chocolate cake. :)

And finally, a graduation cake for my neighbor's son.  This one was a challenge to make, as the cake had to be gluten-free and dairy-free.  I tweaked a vanilla gluten-free cake recipe by adding almond extract and using coconut milk in place of sour cream.  I put a cherry filling between the layers, and made a vanilla frosting with vegan buttery sticks and soy milk.  I am thrilled to report that my neighbor called me the following day to let me know that her son LOVED the cake and ate 4 pieces of it!  I was so happy to be able to provide a dessert for his graduation party that he could actually eat (and enjoy!)

Business is really picking up!!!

Since my cake-decorating business officially became an LLC a few weeks ago, the cake orders have really started rolling in!  It's exciting and exhausting and challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  I love having the opportunity to meet new people, use my creative talents, and be a part of a special day in someone's life, whether it's a birthday, a baptism, a baby shower, or a graduation.  And I love the fact that my house always smells like a freshly-baked cake. :)

Anyway, keeping up with emails and invoices (and of course baking and decorating) have left me little time to update my blog.  So here's a quick run-through of my latest cakes...
